ABRA – Charter Club Growth & Governance Framework

Project Overview
Client: American Buckskin Registry Association (ABRA)
Industry: Equestrian Breed Registry
Role: Content Strategist & Organizational Communications Consultant
Duration: 2024 – 2025
The American Buckskin Registry Association (ABRA) sought to strengthen member engagement and support the growth of its regional Charter Club network. However, prospective club organizers often faced unclear processes, inconsistent governance expectations, and unnecessary barriers when establishing new local organizations.
To support ABRA's long-term growth strategy, I developed a comprehensive Charter Club Growth & Governance Framework consisting of three core resources: a Charter Club Guide, a customizable Bylaws Template, and a Charter Club Benefits Overview. These materials were designed to simplify onboarding, improve organizational consistency, and provide a scalable foundation for future club development.
By combining strategic communications, organizational documentation, and member-focused messaging, the project created a clear roadmap for new Charter Clubs while strengthening ABRA's ability to expand and support local communities nationwide.
The Challenge
ABRA had ambitious goals to expand its Charter Club program but lacked the structure and documentation needed to support consistent club formation and governance.
Key challenges included:
No clear explanation of the benefits of forming a Charter Club
No standardized bylaws template for new organizations
No documented process for club formation, governance, or reporting
High administrative burden on leadership and volunteers
Uncertainty among members interested in starting local clubs
Without a centralized system, club development was often inconsistent and difficult to scale.
The Solution
Working closely with ABRA leadership, I created a comprehensive framework designed to simplify club formation and provide clear guidance for organizers.
The project focused on standardizing governance expectations, clarifying organizational requirements, and translating complex procedures into user-friendly resources that volunteers could confidently follow.
The final framework established a repeatable process for club development while supporting ABRA's long-term vision for national growth and member engagement.
